Till The End.
The Cervélo R-Series Classic Road Bikes
It is more than just riding. It is our passion, our purpose. It is who we are.Explore
Rain soaks our jerseys, sweat stings our eyes. Around the next switchback there’s another switchback. And through it all, we smile. The pain makes us stronger and frees us from stress and anxiety. As Eddy Merckx said, “Cyclists live with pain. If you can't handle it, you will win nothing.”
The wind whispers in our ears, the crisp air fills our lungs, the misty mountainside succumbs to our churning legs — we savour every moment. Then there’s the anticipation: What goes up must come down, and we know we’ve almost reached the thrilling descent.
Even in defeat we earn victory. We win by relentlessly pursuing our passion and by learning from our setbacks. This makes us better riders, but it also makes us better people. As Robert Ingersoll said, “The greatest test of courage on Earth is to bear defeat without losing heart.”
It comes in many forms: Claiming a leader’s jersey, earning a Strava KOM, pushing our limits while training for challenges yet to come. Beyond these mortal trials, there’s something more: The glory of oneness with the elements, with the road, and now, more than ever, with the bike.
The bike is more than a machine. It fuels our passion and empowers our purpose. Together, we are one.Explore
Nature is often perceived as pure and elemental — simple, even — but a closer look reveals incredible intricacy. The new R Series mirrors this duality: There is no curve where no curve is needed, no feature for the sake of the feature. Pure function, pure form, pure performance.
The poetry and complexity of motion are woven into the R Series. Instead of metaphors, it was built using advanced topology technology. Instead of analogies, there were instrumented ride tests. With poetry comes beauty, and the R Series’ is laid bare when charging down chicanes and climbing into the clouds.
The R Series proved itself in the punishing Spring Classics and the Giro d’Italia. After saving his legs on Stage 10 of the 100th Giro, Team Dimension Data’s Omar Fraile unleashed the R5 to earn his first World Tour triumph. The R Series thrives on punishment, yet won’t punish riders.
As poet Paulo Coelho said: “Freedom is not the absence of commitments, but the ability to choose, and commit myself to, what is best for me.” Now, finally, R Series riders are free to choose the fit and features that perfectly suit their riding style.
Road riders no longer equate comfort with soft, slow bikes. Extra vertical compliance can reduce fatigue and boost power output, which is why Cervelo has widened tire clearance for the new R Series and developed a compliant aero seatpost.Wider ClearanceUnique Aero Seatpost
Wheel clearance for the new R Series has been widened by 4.5mm to allow for a maximum tire width of 28mm.
The R5 and R5 Disc’s D-shaped seatpost promotes compliance, and performance-enhancing comfort, without changing the distance between the saddle and the pedals.
A perfect fit for everyone.
Data-driven fitting protocols and TT-like positions are fuelling a new emphasis on fit. One of the triumphs of the new R Series: Providing the ideal fit for every high-performance rider, from the pro fit developed for Team Dimension Data to Cervélo’s renowned race fit.Rider-first Geometry
DDD pros and other more aggressive riders favour a lower front end, which is why Cervélo developed a new pro fit for the R5. At the same time, Cervélo’s renowned race fit has been maintained for the new R3.
Handling & Stability
Confidence is everything.
A new handling geometry enhances stability and, in turn, rider confidence, while disc brake technology delivers superior braking performance, extra lateral fork stiffness, and improved alignment, ease-of-use and safety.Fine-tuned GeometryDisc-brake Technology
Responsive handling and confidence-inspiring stability are perfectly balanced thanks to a lower, stiffer bottom-bracket, extended wheelbase, and consistent trail.
Designing the R5 Disc and R3 Disc around the latest technology delivered benefits beyond superior braking and stiffness. Thru-axles and a new fork insert improve alignment, ease-of-use and safety, while clever graphics help make installation quick and easy.
Stiffness & Weight
Stiffness & Weight
Our stiffest-ever road frames are tuned to a range of riding styles. The R5 is 21% stiffer at the headtube and 13% stiffer at the BB, and the R5 Disc is 18% and 26% stiffer. As climbing weapons, the R3 and R3 Disc are 10% and 16% lighter.Squoval.Max Tube Shapes
New ultra-lightweight shapes deliver a 14-gram aero improvement while fortifying cross-sections to improve stiffness.
More aero than ever.
We are Cervélo, after all, and as we like to say, “Aero is always on.” The new R5 boasts a 44-gram aero improvement thanks to an end-to-end enhancement package. With a different fork, seatpost and cockpit, the R3 delivers a 17-gram improvement.Cervelo-engineered bar and stem
The R5 and R5 Disc’s sleekly integrated bar and stem delivers a 30-gram aero improvement while allowing for internal electronic routing and easy computer mounting.

Team Dimension Data
“(The new R5) gives us a big advantage in terms of weight and is much better for mountain stages. It’s also aero and super-stiff, and is definitely the perfect bike for stage racing. It’s really the perfect combo.”
Bernie Eisel, Rider
The R Series was “incredible” at Paris-Roubaix. “It was a crazy race, but I loved every minute of it.”
Jay Thompson, Rider
“The Cervélo engineers are very skilled at understanding rider language and translating it into technical explanations for our team. The engineers also know how to implement feedback, and will try just about anything to achieve real improvements in bike performance.”
Rolf Aldag, Head of Performance
“The new R5 is my favourite bike for sure. There’s a beautiful and predictable tension through the bike that really accelerates up the climbs, and on the downhills it’s a dream.”
Nathan Haas, Rider
“The R5 is definitely an amazing bike. It still has a lot of the same characteristics of the S5: Stiff in the front, but it’s a more comfortable ride that still pushes hard into the corners and is lighter on the uphills.”
Jacques Janse van Rensburg, Rider
“The bike looks really good and it is lightweight. It’s easy for a mechanic to build the bike, and that is what a mechanic wants to have: A good bike that is easy to service. Once you use the bike it feels like you have been riding it your whole life.”
Kenny Latomme, Team Mechanic
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, Cervélo’s World Tour team, provided essential feedback for the development of the R Series. Between a Mallorca training camp in early 2016 and the R5’s first Grand Tour victory on stage 11 of the 2017 Giro d’Italia, Cervélo’s engineers conducted hundreds of interviews and tests with DiData riders, coaches, mechanics and sport scientists.
